After graduation, I went into the Air Force. I spent two years in Japan and three years in Germany. I really enjoyed both counties. After the Air Force, I went back to school and graduated form UW Stout in 1975, along with Russ Tabor. I ended up getting a job in Manawa, WI and chose to live in nearby Clintonville. I originally was going to stay a couple years and then move on. Thirty years later, I am still here. I worked 28 years in a sheltered workshop, 23 years as its director. Most of our clientele were developmentally disabled (mental retardation). I absolutely loved the work. In high school, I would not have ever thought I would have ended up doing that type of work. I married my wife, Gloria, in 1979. We have two sons, Philip (1980) and Matthew (1983). Both are still very single. No grandchildren to report. Gloria is a registered nurse. I retired in 2003. I do volunteer work. I was elected to the Clintonville Common Council in 2005. I enjoy landscaping, do some gardening, and dapple in web page design. One of my college psychology professors gave a non-required assignment to do something that would be daring and out of character (but legal). Being the procrastinator that I am, I competed that assignment four years ago. I got a motorcycle. To me, it was a mid-life crisis, fulfilling a long time fantasy. To others, it was the beginning of senility. |
